Real-Time 3D Molecular Viewer: free online, no upload
The Real-Time 3D Molecular Viewer is a free, browser-based structural-biology tool powered by the open-source 3Dmol.js library. Load any PDB ID — hemoglobin, DNA, GFP, insulin, ACE2 and thousands more — and switch between cartoon, stick and sphere representations, add surfaces, and label residues, all rendered live on your own device with no server round-trip once the structure is fetched.
How to use Real-Time 3D Molecular Viewer
- Open the viewer: Open the 3D Molecular Viewer on this page. It loads in a few seconds inside your browser tab.
- Load a structure: Type a PDB ID (for example 1HHO for hemoglobin) and press load.
- Change the style: Switch between cartoon, stick, sphere and surface representations from the toolbar.
- Label and export: Click residues to label them, then rotate, zoom and capture the view you need.
Key features
- Load any public PDB ID by code in seconds
- Cartoon, stick, sphere and surface representations
- Residue labelling and style mixing for teaching figures
- Smooth orbit, pan and zoom controls
- Built on the open-source 3Dmol.js WebGL engine
Popular uses
- Visualising a protein or nucleic-acid structure for a paper or thesis
- Teaching molecular biology and biochemistry concepts
- Quick structural lookups while reading the literature
Frequently asked questions
Is the 3D Molecular Viewer free?
Yes, 100% free with no limits. Online Free Tools is a free welfare project supported only by ads.
Is any data uploaded to a server?
No. Structures are fetched from the public PDB archive and rendered entirely in your browser with WebGL; nothing you do is uploaded to us.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes, in any modern mobile browser that supports WebGL, including Chrome and Safari on Android and iPhone.
Is there a limit on which structures I can load?
No. Any public PDB ID can be loaded; very large assemblies simply take a little longer to render depending on your device.
Does it work offline?
The viewer itself works offline once loaded, but fetching a new PDB structure needs an internet connection the first time.
